Thieves Invade Kanu Nwankwo’s Hotel In Lagos, Steal All His Medals

Thieves reportedly invaded Kanu Nwankwo’s Hotel, The Hardley Apartments located at Waziri Ibrahim Crescent on Victoria Island, Lagos and reportedly stole all his football medals, trophies, plaques, and other valuable items.

Kanu Nwankwo who learnt that his hotel which has been sealed up since 2015 sequel due to an alleged default in transaction between it and Skye Bank (now Polaris Bank) was being occupied by some authorized persons who had also commenced renovation of the facility in disregard of the seal order and litigation, was forced to arrive in Nigeria over the weekend to verify the claims.

The hotel has been through series of litigation which is still pending at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, and it was gathered that the last hearing came up in November last year after which the case was adjourned till 31 January 2019.

“It was a rude shock to me,” Kanu, who fought back tears at what the hitherto sprawling facility had become since the renovation started, told TheCable.

“I almost couldn’t recognize the hotel as belonging to me anymore. This is the saddest day of my life as I cannot understand why this happens to me when the matter has yet to be settled in court.

“All the medals I have earned, in addition to the Olympic torch that I cherished are all gone and I don’t even know who to ask for all these prized assets.”

A man who was seen supervising the illegal renovation, told The Cable’s correspondent that he is a staff of the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), leading to suspicion that the assets managers may have also disregarded the court proceedings by taking over the property.

“This is unacceptable in all ramifications. I have not been served any notice that I have lost this property and until I am served the notice, it remains my legal property,” the former Super Eagles’ captain said.

“Even cars and buses belonging to the hotel can no longer be found and I wonder where they could have been moved to without my knowledge,” Kanu further said, even as he lamented how the four-year seal of the facility had adversely affected treatment for numerous patients that his Kanu Heart Foundation planned to rescue from their ailment. “We have used proceeds from the hotel business to effect treatment for the patients over the years and now we are being forced to seek funds elsewhere, a situation that has stalled the treatment considerably especially since 2016.”

An emotion-filled Kanu submitted: “During my service to this country in football up to the year 2000, I made many Nigerians happy. I don’t think I deserve this sadness in retirement.”

The game, which reportedly sold out in two days, could be played against a backdrop of protests at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, in Jeddah.

Several media outlets asked Italy not to sanction the final in Saudi Arabia, due to its alleged support for pirating coverage and protests from activists.

There are also many human rights and moral issues, including the fact that women can only attend the final if they have a man in tow.

Matteo Salvini, Italy’s deputy prime minister, has criticised the decision to play the game in Saudi Arabia with some sections of the stadium reserved for men only.

Qatari broadcaster beIN Sports asked Italian football chiefs not to play the fixture in Saudi Arabia as they reportedly have evidence that Saudi-backed channels are pirating live feeds of games, including Serie A fixtures.

They wanted the showpiece to be relocated. As Middle East rights holders, beIN exert significant influence across the region and have become embroiled in disputes between the nations.

Do You Agree With These Points?? APC Gives Reasons Why President Buhari Might Not Attend Presidential Debate

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says its presidential candidate, President Buhari, may choose not to attend the 2019 presidential debate slated for Saturday January 19th if he feels there are other viable options with which he can speak to Nigerians.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, said this in an interview with Daily Independent. He said the APC will look at several options through which President Buhari will engage Nigerians, adding that there is no big deal if it believes debate is not one of such means.

“What is special about presidential debate? Presidential debate is one of the several platforms for presidential candidates to engage with the public.

As a party, we will look at all the options and pick the ones that we can accommodate and those that will be impactful and effective in achieving our goals.

We will be the ones to determine that. If presidential debate happens to be one of that, fine.

“If it wasn’t, then it is no big deal. There is nothing special about any debate. It is just one of the several platforms to engage the electorate” he said.

My Government Will Not Promise And Fail Like Buhari – Atiku

Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, assured Nigerians that he would not abandon them if given the opportunity to become the president.

The PDP presidential candidate, who spoke at Ado Ekiti, during his campaign in Ekiti State, said the All Progressives Congress, APC, the government had abandoned the state in the areas of roads and federal presence.

He said: “When we were in the palace of the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, the traditional rulers made a case for roads. My administration will tar all the inter-state roads.

“We will complete all Federal Government projects in the state. Our government will not promise and fail like President Muhammadu Buhari. We will also restore standard and quality education so that we can give you jobs.”

He added: “APC doesn’t know how to create jobs and doesn’t know how to give you same.

“We have promised that 40 percent of our portfolios will go to youths, while 30 percent will go to women; that is 70 percent for youths and women.

“We know how to do it; we have done it before, we will do it again,” he assured.

PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim, against “plunging the nation into unnecessary chaos by attempting to subvert the mandate of the people in the general elections.”

Mr. Secondus expressed optimism that his party would win the February 16 presidential race.

The PDP chairman urged Ekiti people and Nigerians to vote for Atiku to free the country from hunger and suffering.

“We are going to win this election. Look at Atiku, he is tested and trusted in public and private sectors. He is a man that can turn economy around. He has the energy for the job,” he added.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, urged the people, particularly the youths, to vote Atiku, saying: “There is no story. Youths, you are the future we need.

“A leader has to make good his promises, but Buhari promised you jobs, security and to fight corruption. Has he fulfilled his promises? No!

“To do all these, you must know how to do it. Atiku is a man who knows how to create jobs, secure the country and also fight corruption.”

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, promised PDP the votes of Ekiti people, saying: “In Ekiti, we will deliver.

“He that the gods will destroy, he will first make to run mad. That is the case of the current Federal Government, but PDP will deliver Nigeria from their poverty and misrule.”

Among PDP chieftains at the campaign are PDP South West Chairman, Dr. Eddy Olafeso; former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel; Senate Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi; former Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola; former Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada, Ambassador Dare Bejide; and Ogun State PDP governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu.

Buhari Is A Sleeping President, He Has No Energy’- PDP

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has revealed why President Muhammadu Buhari allegedly failed to fulfil his promises to Nigerians.

Secondus said Buhari failed in job creation; fighting insecurity and surmounting the challenges of corruption because he is too weak to rule a country as complex as Nigeria.

Secondus further warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Idris Ibrahim, not to plunge the nation into unnecessary chaos by attempting to rig the election.

Secondus expressed optimism that the PDP would win the Presidential poll of February 16

He said,

“Do you know why economy has collapsed? Do you know why hunger is in the land?

“Your President Buhari is a sleeping President, he has no energy that is why the economy has collapsed, we are coming with Atiku who has energy and can work 24 hours a day not the one that would work for three years.

“This government of APC wants to rig election but we want to tell you that they cannot rig the coming elections because the world will focus on Nigeria.

“So we are going to win this election, look at Atiku, he is tested and trusted in public and private sectors. He is a man that can turn economy around. And he has the energy for the job.

“INEC, all your plan to rig the election will fail. If you attempt to rig the polls you will be throwing the country into chaos.

“IGP, you aren’t the first IGP of this nation, don’t plunge the nation into chaos. It is going to be one man one vote, free and fair election,” he

Seyi Law Reveals Those Who Have Been His Greatest Enemies

Popular Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law, has spoken of those who happen to be his greatest enemies in life.

Lawrence Oluwaseyitan Aletile, Nigerian comedian popularly known as Seyi Law, says the people he has trusted the most in his life have been his greatest enemies.

In a post on his Instagram page, the 35-year-old comedian said one of the most profound lessons he has learnt in life is that strangers will have limited chances of harming a person if close relatives do not talk.

“Yesterday, my wife spotted my first grey hair and I began to ask myself what wisdom have I gained from life. One of the most profound lessons is, if those who live indoors with you don’t talk, those outdoor will have limited chance of harming you,” he wrote.

“It took Judas to sell out Jesus. It took Joseph’s brother to sell him to slavery and it took Ahithophel to destroy David’s house, but in all of these with all their evil, there is a fulfilment of purpose despite the hurts.

“Those who I have trusted the most have been my greatest enemies, always talking without been asked or succumbing to lies about me, but as I leave them behind, God always opens a new chapter that celebrates His Grace and Glory in my life that they always wished they were a part of.”

Captain’s body was taken from the vets in a horse-drawn carriage to a park where he used to go for walks. His coffin was then transferred to a hearse for the 40-minute drive to Willow Haven Cemetery in Bedmond, Hertfordshire.

Cemetery owner Maureen Beach read a poem at Captain’s graveside with 11 doves – one for each year of his life – being released at 2pm during the service after he was lowered into the ground.

Afterwards, Sasha went to the pub where she put a plate of chicken and chips on the table “as that is what he would have had”.

Sasha said, “Captain deserved a special send off. For some people he was a dog, to me he was my baby – he was everything to me and always will be.”
