Military High Command explained that the size of Sambisa forest, in Borno state where Boko Haram terrorists are hiding is responsible for the delay in flushing out the insurgents.
Chief of Army Staff ( COAS), Tukur Burutai, said during the familiarization tour of 82 Division, Enugu: “We are already in Sambisa forest. But Sambisa is as big as Enugu state which needs thorough planning for logistics and other manpower needed. That accounts for the delay. In flushing out the insurgents. The alleged incident of killing of MASSOB, IPOB members by the Army in Aba will be investigated.
“Since my appointment, we have set out to build a professionally responsible Army in the discharge of its constitutional role which is the result of what we are seeing today. We have taken steps to ensure that education within the Army is paramount to ensure that troops operate within the rules of engagement.” Boko Haram has killed at least 17,000 people and left more than 2.6 million others homeless since their six-year campaign began. This perhaps is why the US military now calls it the most lethal violent extremist group in the world.
